Your Role at Baxter

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for maintaining an effective occupational health program at the facility level. The OHN acts as a business partner to maximize productivity and reduce health related costs. OH program elements include: immediate care for illness and injury, health surveillance, job placement, regulatory compliance, case management and health promotion. The OHN provides healthcare services to employees or persons who become ill or injured at the facility. Practices within the parameters of professional licensure to ensure consistency with legal, labor, regulatory and corporate requirements.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide immediate care of employee injuries and illnesses, including coordinating a medical emergency response team.

  • Maintain appropriate job placement and health surveillance of employees. Examples include: required hearing conservation program and audiometry, respiratory surveillance, and management of reproductive and chemical hazard exposures.

  • Maintain a documentation system for occupational health record keeping and confidentiality. Responsible for all required reporting (i.e., OSHA, Workers Compensation, monthly injury and illness metrics, etc.).

  • Uses basic ergonomic principles to perform simple office ergonomic assessments. Works with EHS to support risk reduction for employees experiencing potentially work-related musculoskeletal symptoms.

  • Maintain an effective case management program including coordination with other health care professionals, human resources, department managers, and insurance carrier representatives or third-party administrators to facilitate timely return to work and appropriate utilization of benefits.

  • Facilitates and coordinates a risk-based health promotion program to enhance employee and family wellbeing.

  •  Provides health-related counseling for employees within the scope of nursing knowledge and practice.

  • Partners with other health and safety professionals to recognize health hazards and safety risk factors in the workplace that may cause negative health impacts among employees. Actively participates in determining strategies to reduce those risks. 

  •  Participates in the periodic evaluation of the facility occupational health program and takes measures to achieve continuous improvement. Stays within the OH budget.

  • Responsible for the on-site drug-testing program, including follow-up with outcomes as appropriate. 

  • Maintains professional continuing education and secures task-based certification as appropriate to practice (ex. pulmonary function, hearing testing).

What you'll bring

  • Must be an Arkansas Registered Nurse

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a clinical nurse setting

  • Certification in CPR/first aid is required

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred

  • Occupational Health Certification preferred

  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills

  • Physically able to respond in emergency situations

  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, decision making and independent nursing judgment

  • Proficient in computer program use

  • Occasional travel required via motor vehicle or commercial airline.

  • Skills in decision-making, problem-solving, and independent nursing judgment

Physical / Safety Requirements

  • Duties may require overtime work

  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment is required

  • Position requires standing and walking for extended periods of time 

  • Sitting at desk, using hands to write and operate computer.

  • Ability to talk, both on the phone and in person.

  • Physically able to respond to emergencies in plant.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

  • Occasional travel required via motor vehicle or commercial airline.

  • Primary work is indoors

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $76,000 - $104,500 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonus.
